1,376 “Meetup” Groups in Denver – Where do You Meet?

Many of you may already be familiar with this social networking opportunity here in Denver, but a fried from Jacksonville (FL) actually turned me on to “Meetup” Denver.

For those of you who don’t yet know, according to their website meetup.com, “Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 2,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.”

“Meetup’s mission is to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference.”

So, I began to peruse the plethora (did I mention there are almost 1400 Meetup groups in and around Denver?) of “meetup” opportunities to see where I might jump in, feet first.

Since the groups are listed alphabetically, the first meetup option I came upoin was the “Denver Atheists Meetup Group,” whose page opens with “Welcome Heathens!” SO…I’m guessing they are not meeting in a church basement, huh?

What about the “Denver Internet Mastermind Group” – do you think they meet, after-hours in a cubicle pod on the outskirts of Denver?

Then there is Denver’s “Citizens ET UFO Briefing Group” …I’m certain every major city has one…particularly Roswell (NM)…and I’m thinking they meet in a cornfield of circles, right?

I was surprised that we actually had a “Denver Greasers and Rockabilly Meetup Group” – who knew?

Of course, no major metropolitan city is safe from the ubiquitous iphone Group (yes, Denver has one, too!) Isn’t there an app for that? Maybe they meet at the Apple Store to have easy-access to their Genius bar…

So, I’m thinking of starting my own Denver “Meetup” group and we will meet at one of our conveniently-located self storage facilities. After all, I just learned that Boy Scout troops all over the country are now using self storage units for “Den Meetings.” If it’s good enough for the Boy Scouts, it’s good enough for me!

Now…I just have to think of a cool “Meetup” group name…
