Re-Zoning Denver Parks: Open and Green

One of the things I love about self-storage is that it means people don’t have to live in gargantuan houses. Seasonal decorations, wedding dresses and other stuff you save for sentimental reasons but don’t want to look at every day, the documents from your small business archives, family heirlooms and antiques that are too precious to have out for everyday use–all that can be stored somewhere else, allowing you to live in a smaller home, one with a smaller carbon footprint.

And living in smaller homes means that more of our green space can stay green. Denver has plenty of green space, and we all love it. But much of that green space is currently zoned as residential, commercial, or industrial. Now the city is considering updating its zoning codes so that public parks can be designated as open space. Frankly, I was surprised to find out they weren’t zoned that way to begin with! As much as I love self-storage, I wouldn’t want to see a self-storage facility, or any other business, sitting in the middle of Centennial Park (for example). If the parks are zoned as open space, they can stay that way — open. Open, and green. (Or, often, at this time of the year, white and green.) I agree with the new proposal to zone our parks as open space (OS-A). I hope you do too.
